Find your zodiac sign by birth month
Each month contains two Sun signs. Choose a month for its birthday table, the two sign ranges, and help with the changeover.
The four zodiac elements
Each element groups three signs around a set of interpretive themes. The classification does not come from the sign’s picture: Aquarius, the Water Bearer, is an air sign.
Cardinal, fixed, and mutable signs
A modality describes how a sign’s themes are expressed. Each element has one sign of each modality, producing twelve combinations.
Your Sun sign is one part of a birth chart
The Sun sign comes from the Sun’s position. The Moon sign uses the Moon’s position, and the rising sign is the zodiac sign on the eastern horizon at the birth time and place. Sharing a Sun sign does not mean sharing all three.
Signs and houses are different
A sign’s place in the zodiac does not assign it a fixed house in your chart. Houses depend on the birth time, place, and house system. Likewise, a ruling planet is an astrological association, not a statement that the planet occupied that sign when you were born.
Why another guide may give a different answer
The tropical zodiac divides the Sun’s apparent path into twelve equal 30-degree sectors measured from the March equinox. The Sun enters each sign at a particular moment, not at a fixed local midnight. If the birth time is unknown near a sign change, the answer may remain uncertain.
Near a Sun-sign boundary, the year and time can resolve a disagreement between fixed date lists. A sidereal chart uses a different zodiac reference point from the tropical system used here, so first check that both sources use the same system.
Rulerships also differ by tradition. Mars, Saturn, and Jupiter traditionally rule Scorpio, Aquarius, and Pisces; many modern astrologers use Pluto, Uranus, and Neptune respectively. Our sign profiles identify both. Tarot connections follow the Golden Dawn assignments and are named as that tradition, rather than presented as universal.
