What is Numerology?
Numerology is the ancient study of numbers and their mystical influence on our lives. By analyzing your name and birth date, numerology reveals your life's purpose, natural talents, inner desires, and the path you're meant to walk.
Our calculator uses the Pythagorean system, the most popular and accurate numerology method, to calculate your core numbers and provide deep insights into your personality and destiny.
Life Path Number
Your life's journey and core purpose - the most important number in your chart.
Destiny Number
Your natural talents and the mission you're here to fulfill.
Soul Urge Number
Your inner motivations and what your soul truly desires.
Personality Number
How others perceive you and your outer expression.
How Numerology Numbers Are Calculated
Life Path Number (The Tri-Fold Method)
The Life Path is your most important number. Professional numerologists use the Tri-Fold Reduction Method, which reduces month, day, and year separately before adding. This preserves Master Numbers that would be lost with simple addition.
Example: December 25, 1990
Why This Matters
If you add all digits linearly (1+2+2+5+1+9+9+0 = 29 → 11), you might get the same answer—but not always. The Tri-Fold method ensures Master Numbers (11, 22, 33) within the components are preserved and not accidentally reduced.
Name Numbers (Destiny, Soul Urge, Personality)
Name numbers use the Pythagorean system to convert letters to numbers. Use your full birth name as it appears on your birth certificate.
Destiny Number
Sum of ALL letters in your full name. Reveals your talents and life mission.
Soul Urge Number
Sum of VOWELS only (A, E, I, O, U). Reveals your inner desires and motivations.
Personality Number
Sum of CONSONANTS only. Reveals how others perceive you.
Pythagorean Letter-to-Number Chart
Use this chart to calculate name numbers manually. Each letter corresponds to a number from 1-9.
Pink letters are vowels (used for Soul Urge calculation)
When is "Y" a Vowel?
The letter Y is unique—it can function as either a vowel or consonant depending on its phonetic role. This affects your Soul Urge and Personality numbers.
Y is a VOWEL when:
- • It's the only vowel sound in a syllable (Lynn, Gym)
- • It ends a name after a consonant (Mary, Terry)
- • It makes an "ee" or "eye" sound (Yvonne, Kylie)
Y is a CONSONANT when:
- • It starts a name or syllable (Yolanda, Yale)
- • It makes a "yuh" sound before a vowel (Maya, Royal)
- • It acts as a glide between sounds (Toyota)
Quick Rule: If you can remove the Y and still pronounce the syllable with another vowel sound, Y is a consonant. If removing Y leaves no vowel sound, Y is a vowel.
